JT2 (Job Transition 2, 18-21 vocational program)
Transition & Vocational Education Program for Students Ages 18–21 who qualify for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
The Job Transition II (JT2) program is designed to prepare interns to become independent and successful members of the workforce through meaningful, real-world vocational experiences within their community.
Through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, each intern’s post-graduation goals are identified and a coordinated plan is developed to support progress toward those goals throughout their participation in the JT2 program.
The JT2 program is comprised of two primary components: Academic Instruction and Vocational Skills Training.
Academic Instruction
Interns participate in two core academic courses designed to strengthen functional skills necessary for employment and independent living:
Fundamental Academics
This course focuses on developing essential literacy, communication, and workplace readiness skills. Instruction includes reading, writing, language development, application and interviewing skills, and other job-related communication competencies. Interns also build functional mathematics skills, including money management, budgeting, understanding paychecks, maintaining a checkbook, time recognition, and effective time management and planning.
Independent Living Skills
This course emphasizes the development of essential “soft skills” needed to obtain and maintain employment. Areas of instruction include social skills, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and the development of independence in both school and community settings.
Vocational Skills Training
Vocational training includes a continuum of structured learning experiences across on-campus, in-district, and community-based settings throughout the Black Horse Pike Regional School District communities. These Structured Learning Experiences (SLEs) are provided in a variety of environments under the direct supervision of a SLE Coordinator trained job coach.
The goal of these experiences is to maximize post-secondary employability by:
- Providing exposure to a variety of work environments to help identify settings that best match each intern’s strengths and needs
- Expanding experiences across multiple vocational contexts to strengthen skill development
- Offering opportunities to practice appropriate workplace communication and social interactions
- Systematically fading adult supports to promote increased independence in the workplace
- Building a broad repertoire of transferable job skills applicable across multiple employment settings
This comprehensive, multifaceted approach ensures that interns are supported in developing the skills, confidence, and independence needed to successfully transition from school to employment and adult life.
